Gladys (Jacobs) Berkowitz of Stoughton, formerly of Sharon, passed away on November 1, 2021 at the age of 96, after a brief illness.

She was the daughter of the late Louis and Sara Jacobs, and the loving wife of the late George Berkowitz for 38 years. Gladys was the cherished mother of Stuart Berkowitz and his wife Denise, of Flagstaff, AZ, Richard Berkowitz and his wife Linda of Stoughton, and Joyce (Berkowitz) Westerman and her husband Mel of Easton.

Gladys was the beloved grandmother of Tamar Berkowitz and her wife Evie, Alissa (Westerman) Matisoff and her husband Nate, Erica (Berkowitz) Remy and her husband Aaron, Dan Westerman and his fiancee Mollie Mitchem, Suzanne (Berkowitz) Legros and her husband Tony, and Joe Berkowitz and his wife Elizabeth.

She was also the treasured great grandmother to Travis, Lilah, Emmanuelle, Zoe and Jordan.

She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gladys was fiercely dedicated to her family and friends and enjoyed playing bridge, reading and doing word searches.

Gladys’ life was celebrated on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Schlossberg Chapel on the Hill, followed by burial at Sharon Memorial Park in Sharon, MA.

She was very proud of her philanthropic efforts, as well as her participation in multiple social organizations including Young at Heart, Council on Aging, Women’s American ORT and Temple Sisterhood. Gladys and her family were proud members of Temple Israel for many years.

 

In honor of Gladys, donations are being accepted for the continuation of her “passion project” for the past 15 years, the local sock drive.
