Robert “Bob” Gass June 28, 2021

Date of Funeral

July 6, 2021

LOVING HUSBAND, DAD, GRAMPIE, EDUCATOR.

Sadly, Bob passed away on June 28 at the age of 75 surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Diane to whom he was married for 52 years. Devoted father of Jon and his wife Kathleen of Harrisonburg, VA, Michael and his wife Rachel of Millis, Buddy of NYC, and Callie. Cherished Grampie to Max, Danny, Phoebe, and Nate. Loving brother to Steve and Barbara, and brother-in-law to Bev, Jimmy, Rob, and Linda. Bob moved to Millis from Randolph and enjoyed spending winters golfing in Murrieta CA.

Bob served the Randolph community for over 40 years as a Town Meeting Member and a School Committee member for 25 years. He coached Little League for over 30 years and was one of the founders of Randolph Youth Basketball. The Randolph Middle School gymnasium was named in his honor. Bob served as President of the Mass Association of School Committees and a Chairperson of the South Shore Charter School. He spent both his public service career and personal life dedicated to education and youth. In particular, Bob was an advocate for those with special needs. He worked at the Home for Little Wanderers and Special Education Consortiums throughout the state. In 2010, Bob retired as the Executive Director of the Northshore Education Consortium but continued to consult with schools regarding special needs until summer 2021.

An avid golfer, Bob played in high school and continued throughout his life. He organized the “Geezer Tour” for older golfers in Millis and Murrieta. His only hole-in-one was with his son and grandson while celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary with his family in 2019.

Bob was a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly to be the voice for those who did not have one. He was a caring, kind, compassionate person, devoted to his family, friends, and town. He treated everyone with respect, had a wonderful sense of humor, and an infectious laugh. Bob will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

At the request of the family, the funeral service will be private. In lieu of flowers, please raise a glass “to good friends and good health”, Bob’s signature toast. A public memorial event is planned for Wednesday, July 28th, 12pm-3pm at The Granite Links Golf Club located at 100 Quarry Hill Dr. Quincy, MA. The family would love to see you there to help celebrate Bob’s life.
