Paul Milner, PhD, CCC-A

Paul Milner, 85, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at Saint Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and dementia.

Paul was the devoted husband of Ione Milner for nearly 62 years; the loving father of the late Joshua Milner, his wife Melissa, and Jeremy Milner and his wife, Bethany; and the extremely proud grandfather of Jacob, Eva and Anna Milner. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Geltman, her husband, Dr. Edward Geltman, and his nephew, Dr. Joshua Geltman. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Rose (Morrison) Milner.

Born and raised in Chelsea, Massachusetts, Paul remained proud of his Boston roots throughout his life. He graduated from Chelsea High School in 1959 before earning a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1963. His passion for the science of sound ultimately led him to earn a PhD in Speech and Hearing Sciences from The City University of New York Graduate Center.

Paul served in the United States Army before receiving an honorable discharge, often joking that the Army became a safer place the day he left.

He began his career as a sound engineer at CBS Laboratories in New York City and designed speakers for Acoustic Research before founding the Hearing Care Center in Sharon, Massachusetts, in 1989. Over the next three decades, he built a practice known for clinical excellence as well as the compassion, patience and integrity with which he treated his patients.

During his more than 45 years in Audiology, Paul became a respected leader in his profession. He served as a part-time faculty member at several universities, teaching Audiology and hearing science to future generations of clinicians. He was the founding president of the Massachusetts Academy of Audiology, was board certified by the American Board of Audiology, and remained committed to advancing the profession throughout his career.

Paul also believed in giving back to his community. He was active in numerous civic and professional organizations, including the Rotary Club of Sharon, the Sharon Council on Aging and The Society in Dedham for Apprehending Horse Thieves, among others.

Outside of work, Paul found genuine pleasure in the things he loved most. He loved classical music, singing in the choir at Temple Sinai, took piano lessons, won a contest for his award-winning carrot cake, collected antique hearing aids and elephant figurines—many, many elephant figurines—and never missed an opportunity to share his trademark dad jokes. He rarely missed the annual classic car show in Dedham, where he delighted in pointing out his first car, a 1963 Corvair, as though his family was seeing it for the first time. He loved to travel and never lost his fascination with learning and tinkering with the latest technology. Those who knew Paul will remember his kindness as well as his passion for music and cooking. More than any professional accomplishment, he loved his family, taking a drive to nowhere and a bad joke.

A graveside memorial service is scheduled for 9:45 AM on July 9, 2026 at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St, Sharon, MA 02067.  A light lunch will be held immediately following the service. Shiva will be held at the home of Ione Milner from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm., 62 Deer Run Xing, East Greenwich, RI, 02818.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Temple Sinai in Sharon or to Saint Elizabeth Home in East Greenwich, RI, in gratitude for the exceptional kindness, compassion and loving care shown to Paul and his family throughout his time there. The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to the nurses, aides and staff whose warmth and unwavering compassion brought comfort to Paul and surrounded him with love until his peaceful passing.
