Paul Maltzman passed away peacefully at the age of 95, surrounded by his family.
Born and raised in Boston, Paul was a proud US Army veteran and a retired structural engineer whose career – and his life – reflected his disciplined mind and deep sense of responsibility – and getting things right. He graduated from Northeastern University in 1953 with a degree in Civil Engineering, repeatedly making the Dean’s List. He was married to Shirley Dubin that year. However, soon after, he answered the call to serve as Military Policeman in the Korean War, from 1953 to 1955.
After returning to the US and starting his family, Paul became a member of Temple Israel of Sharon, beginning a commitment to his synagogue and Jewish community that would span more than six decades.
Paul was also active well beyond the synagogue community. As a veteran, he served as Quartermaster for the Massachusetts Department of the Jewish War Veterans, maintaining strong bonds with fellow servicemen and honoring the legacy of Jewish service to our country. He enjoyed fundraising for them by organizing sales of red poppy flower pins every Memorial Day. He loved traveling, having visited vast areas of the US, England, France, the Netherlands, and Israel – and most recently participated in an Honor Flight (a one-day whirlwind trip to Washington DC), allowing him to share a tremendous experience with fellow veterans.
Back home in Sharon, he was an engaged member and Secretary of the Sharon Men’s Club, where he enjoyed camaraderie, community involvement, and meaningful friendships.
Paul loved baseball and the Red Sox (especially Dom DiMaggio and Ted Williams) and would often tell stories of how he would take the train to Fenway and sit in the bleachers. He took that passion into practice, serving as a Little League coach in Sharon for many years.
Paul will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Shirley of 73 years (“plus 5”, counting their years of dating and engagement), his children, Richard and Ellen Maltzman and Donna and Kenneth Kaplan, his grandchildren, Sarah and Neil Shah, Brenna Cibley, Daniel and Dahlia Maltzman and his late grandson, Jordan Cibley. He was also blessed with four great grandchildren, Brooke and Cayleigh Briggs, Dilan Shah and Marah Maltzman.
In addition to those listed above, he leaves behind extended family members and many dear friends who will miss his wisdom, loyalty, sense of humor and steady, reliable guidance.
Funeral services will be held at: Schlossberg Memorial Chapel, 824 Washington St., Canton, MA, on March 8, 2026, at 11AM. Interment will follow immediately at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon, MA.
Shiva will be held on SUNDAY at TWO locations: the home of Donna & Kenneth Kaplan from 4-7:30PM and the home of Richard & Ellen Maltzman after 6:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Honor Flight Network and/or to the Jewish War Veterans.
