Nancy L. Ehrmann December 14, 2023

Date of Funeral

December 18, 2023

Nancy L. Ehrmann, 99, of Canton, Massachusetts, formerly of Randolph, Brockton, and Portsmouth, Ohio, passed away on December 14, 2023. Devoted daughter of the late Simon S. and Julia (Haas) Lehman. Beloved wife of the late Rabbi H. Bruce Ehrmann. Loving mother of Ann and her husband, David Shagam; David and his wife, Barbara; Johanna; Jonathan and his wife, Debra. Cherished grandmother of Benjamin and Sara, Scott and Hannah, and great-grandmother of Isaac, Aaliyah, and Ava; Ernest and Felix. Dear sister of the late Laura Cinoman and the late Susan Ellick. She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and their descendants.

The eldest of three sisters, Nancy grew up in Portsmouth, Ohio, in a small, close-knit Jewish community, and she enjoyed being a Girl Scout. She attended college at Ohio State.

She was a lifelong volunteer and was active in the Sisterhood of Temple Israel in Brockton, as well as the Brockton chapter of Brandeis National Committee, and the League of Women Voters. She served on the board of Brockton Hospital, and in later years played active roles in Meals on Wheels and at the Turner Public library.

Nancy had a lifelong interest in arts and crafts, honing her skills in everything from jewelry making to sewing, calligraphy (English and Hebrew), knitting, and cross-stitching. She loved the theater and music and made sure her children had access to the arts.

For much of her life she savored the slower pace of summers with family and friends on a small Maine island. She and her husband traveled to Israel, China, Europe, and within the U.S. In retirement they relished escaping to Florida for a month or two in winter.

In her later years she learned to use a computer, became an avid bridge player, and continued to support causes she believed in. She modeled kindness and humanity toward those around her through her final days.

    Dear Ehrmann Family

I knew Nancy and Rabbi Bruce from their frequent visits to Temple Klal Yisrael (later Kol Tikvah) where I was the cantorial soloist. Nancy was a kind and warm hearted person, and I always enjoyed my time visiting with her when she came to temple. She was a mensch in every sense of the word. May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
