David Gaffin May 30, 2026

Date of Funeral

June 3, 2026

David Gaffin, 83, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026. Born in Petah Tikvah, Israel, on August 10, 1942, he was the son of Israel and Sara Gaffin. Shortly after David’s bar mitzvah in Israel, he and his family moved to America by ship and settled in the Boston area. He graduated from the “school of hard knocks,” where working was more important to him than schooling. In 1965, he married Paula Ruth Katz and they settled in Brockton, shortly after. They purchased a brand new home and raised their sons there.

He had tenure at Gold Seal Rubber Company in Readville and Central Beef in Boston, where he became a truck driver. In 1970, he joined the Teamsters Union and started driving trucks for Cape Cod Overland Express in Avon. In 1980, CCO went out of business and David became an over-the-road truck driver.

In 1987, David decided to become his own boss and purchased his first of what would become 4 trucks over the next 20 years. David drove in all 48 states many times over and enjoyed travelling, making new friends along the way, and listening to country music. Dolly Parton, Marty Robbins, Connie Francis, and Alabama were among his favorites.

When David wasn’t on the road, he enjoyed landscaping and gardening, and took a lot of pride in his yard. He also spent time with and visiting his family.

David leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Paula Gaffin, his sons, Michael Gaffin (Norma) of Waltham and Eric Gaffin of Manchester, NH, his sister Clara Schechter (Menachim), and his brother Leo Gaffin (Este), both of Stoughton. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Nathan and Simone Gaffin, and loving nephew and nieces.

David’s funeral service will be held for family and friends on Wednesday,  June 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM,  776 Baker St., Boston, MA 02132 at the Shepetovka Cemetery (Baker Street Cemeteries). Immediately following the burial, a shiva call will be held at the home of Leo & Este Gaffin in Stoughton, MA.

Expressions of sympathy in David’s memory may be donated to a charitable organization of one’s choosing.
