Elaine Kahn Greenberg, age 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Dedham, Massachusetts, on July 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Elaine was born on January 26, 1932, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Dr. George and Ida Mae Kahn. She grew up in Brookline and, over the course of her life, made homes in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Chestnut Hill before settling in Dedham.
A graduate of Tufts University, Elaine began her career in the Filene’s executive training program and went on to work in a variety of retail positions throughout her professional life. She brought intelligence, warmth, and grace to everything she did.
Elaine was deeply committed to her community and devoted countless hours to organizations that were important to her. She was active in Combined Jewish Philanthropies, Camp Kingswood, and Congregation Mishkan Tefila. She believed in giving back and quietly made a lasting difference through her generosity and volunteer service. She enjoyed an active life, playing golf and tennis well into her seventies, and she was an accomplished bridge player who relished both the challenge of the game and the friendships it fostered.
Above all else, Elaine treasured her family. She was immensely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whose accomplishments and happiness brought her great joy. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, gentle spirit, and unwavering patience. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel cared for and respected, and those who knew her will remember that she never raised her voice. Her quiet strength, compassion, and steady presence were gifts to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Elaine shared 35 happy years of marriage with her beloved husband, Sam, before his passing. Together they built a loving family and a life centered on devotion to one another, their children, and their community. Elaine was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sam Greenberg; her sister, Elsa Ramin; and her parents, Dr. George and Ida Mae Kahn.
She is survived by her loving children, Amy Bard and her husband Len, Peter Greenberg and his wife Irene, and Marcy Fischer and her husband Larry; her cherished grandchildren, Josh Bard and his wife Sara MacDonald, Alex Bard and his wife Amanda, Shira Fischer, and Ilana Fischer; and her adored great-grandchildren, Simon, Max, and Cameron Bard.
Elaine’s greatest legacy is the family she loved so deeply and the example she set through a life of kindness, generosity, humility, and quiet strength. May her memory forever be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, July 9th at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington St., Canton.
