Steven L. Derman April 24, 2026

Date of Funeral

April 27, 2026

With deep love and profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Steven L. Derman, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who died on April 24, 2026 at the age of 78.

He is survived by his adored wife Ava (Wiener) Derman of 50 years, his two sons Joshua Derman and his wife Amit Levran, and Jeremy Derman and his wife Jessica (Dennis) Derman, and his three beloved grandchildren Lior, Eliana and Aidan, who were the greatest pride and joy of his life. He was also the cherished brother of Jay Derman and his wife Carol Derman. He is also survived by a family of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Steven was the son of Albert and Eleanor Derman of blessed memory, and was raised in Milton, MA. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Rochester Institute of Technology, an executive MBA from Suffolk University and a master’s from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institutional.

A remarkably charming man, he had a rare gift for connecting with people. He could engage almost anyone he met—from the postman, to neighbors, to professional colleagues—with warmth, humor and genuine interest. People were naturally drawn to him, and many left encounters feeling better for having known him. He was also known for giving sage advice to those who needed it—especially when it came to professional matters. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren, marveling at them, celebrating their milestones, and sharing in the rhythms of their daily lives. His love for them was constant, proud and deeply felt.

He devoted his professional life to the newspaper business, where he was a respected expert in printing and production. Holding key positions at the Hartford Courant, Toronto Star, Detroit News and the Austin Company in Cleveland, OH, his work reflected the great self-discipline that defined his life—careful, precise, and done with pride and integrity. He took satisfaction in hard work and believed deeply in doing things the right way.

Outside of work, he approached life with energy and enthusiasm. He was committed to exercise and physical activity, a reflection of both his discipline and his determination to live fully. A devoted Red Sox fan, he followed the team closely sharing in the unique ups and downs of being a Sox fan each baseball season. He also took great pleasure in food and restaurants, enjoying good meals and discovering places worth returning to—especially when shared with family, and simpler pleasures like watching the fishing boats in Scituate Harbor.

Steven faced Parkinson’s disease with strength and grace, continuing to inspire family and friends, and demonstrating extraordinary physical resilience. Throughout his long illness, he faced each challenge with courage and dignity, never losing his spirit.

Above all else, he was a devoted husband and father. His family was the center of his world, and he expressed his love through steadfast presence, loyalty and unwavering support. He leaves behind a legacy of enduring perseverance, kindness and compassion. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

There will be a graveside service at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon, MA on Monday, April 27th at 9:45AM with burial to follow immediately.

A reception luncheon will be held at the home of Alan and Nancy Wiener, 4 Agawam Rd., Sharon, MA following the burial from 11:00AM – 3:00PM.
