Sandra (Balansky) Mortell of Brockton, MA entered into rest on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at the age of 72. Born in Boston, MA on December 13, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Freda (Rostoff) Balansky. Sandra grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and graduated from Boston Latin High School. After high school she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in education from Boston State College. Sandra worked as a kindergarten teacher in the Boston Public school system for many years until her retirement in 2007. Sandra, genuinely loved teaching and took great pride in her job as an educator.

In her spare time, she loved travelling with family and friends and learning about the different cultures of the places she would visit. Sandra also enjoyed taking the occasional trip to Foxwoods but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandson, Joseph who was her “joy boy”.

Beloved wife of 48 years to Lawrence Mortell. Loving mother of Sarah Furtado & her husband Philip. Cherished grandmother of Joseph Furtado. Devoted sister of late Rosalyn Lowe & her surviving husband Robert, David Balansky, and Gerald Balansky & his wife Ann. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, especially her good friend Deb Leahy.

Her funeral service will be held at Schlossberg Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street, Canton, MA on Thursday, March 3rd at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Sandra’s memory may be donated to Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation www.ipffoundation.org.

    We are so deeply saddened at the passing of my First cousin Sandy! Sandy was the Sweetest and wonderful person you could ever meet ! Always a lady who made me smile whenever we got together in our youth.
