Roberta Marlene (Bower) Segal, a longtime Brockton resident, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, at 83 years of age. Born in Boston to the late Carl & Frances (Cohen) Bower, Roberta was known for her kindheartedness to all and the deep, unwavering love she had for her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family for one of her lovingly prepared home cooked meals, enjoying Chinese takeout together, or simply sharing stories.
Roberta found immense pleasure in the simple things, cultivating deep connections and making fast friends wherever her travels took her. She indulged her adventurous spirit by exploring tropical islands and always brought a dash of luck with her, frequently finding success at the slot machines while on vacation . She also possessed a remarkable memory for detail and a sharp wit, making her a legendary storyteller. Her accounts of the“crazy happenings” at work were so vivid and entertaining that her family always said she could have written a best-selling book. Her loving nature and joyful approach to life will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
For 56 years, Roberta was the beloved wife of Stephen Segal and was the loving mother of Mark & his wife Anastasia Segal, and Helene Segal-Kreger & her husband, Gregory Kreger. She was the cherished grandmother of Robert Segal, Demi Segal, Sean Kreger, Lindsey Kreger, and Frances Kreger. Roberta is also survived by her dear sister, Marcia Leppo and her late husband, Martin Leppo.
A graveside funeral service will be held at the Temple Israel of Brockton Cemetery, 1000 Pearl Street, Brockton on Friday, October 24 at 11:00AM.In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
