MARILYN “Mickey” (Freeman) KOGOS, a longtime Sharon resident passed away on Friday, October 24th, at 94 years of age. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Morris & Minnie (Tabachovitz) Freeman.

Mickey met Donald Kogos after he was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps following World War II. They settled in Sharon where they raised their three daughters, Marcia and less than two years later, identical twins, Myra and Caryn.

Managing her home and raising three toddlers was a full time job, however Mickey found the time and energy to serve on the Board of Directors at Temple Israel of Sharon and was the president of the synagogue’s Sisterhood. She was a Life Member of Hadassah and volunteered at the Norwood Hospital. Mickey also served as President of the Women’s Committee at Spring Valley Country Club. She was a Life Member of the Hebrew Home which evolved into Hebrew SeniorLife.

Mickey became involved with New England Villages, an organization that provides support and services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Mickey’s term as President of New England Villages coincided with its 25th Anniversary year.

For 73 years, Mickey was the beloved wife of Donald Kogos and was the loving mother of Marcia Powers & her husband Robert Powers, Myra Walker and Caryn Kogos-Irwin & her husband James. She was the cherished grandmother of Bob Powers Jr. & his wife Tracy, Michael Powers & his wife Tiffany, and Jonathan Walker. Mickey’s legacy will carry on through their five great-grandchildren.

She was the dear sister of the late Ruth Alperin.

Mickey’s funeral will be held at Temple Israel of Sharon, 125 Pond Street, Sharon on Monday, October 27th at 1PM.  Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon.

Shiva will be observed at CareOne, 675 South Main Street, Sharon following the burial until 5PM, continuing Tuesday, October 28th from 2PM-5PM.

    I am so sorry for your great loss. Mickey was a wonderful woman. I have beautiful memories of her from Spring Valley CC. She was like the “den” mother to all of us during our younger days. She will be sorely missed by all that knew Mickey. She left a great legacy.
