Herbert G. Berman July 19, 2022

Date of Funeral

July 22, 2022

Herbert “Herbie” Berman (95) of Dorchester, MA.
Beloved mail carrier and Dorchester icon passed away on July 19, 2022, surrounded by his loving family, after his sixth bout with pneumonia.

Herbie was a world champion bowler who was inducted into the Candle Pin Hall of Fame. Herbie delivered mail until the age of 88; after 55 years of service, Mayor Tom Menino of Boston created a holiday in his honor — Herbert Berman Day.

Accolades aside, Herbie’s greatest achievement was keeping his family of 4 kids together after losing his wife in a tragic accident.

He is survived by his 4 adoring children, Carol Berman of NJ, and her husband Alan Cooper, Arthur Berman and his wife Nancy Jacobson, Bruce Berman, and Charlene Berman of MA; loving grand daughter, Rachel Cooper and her husband Damian Ferrese of Washington, DC; and many nieces and nephews that called him “Uncle Herbie”. Herbie exuded such friendliness and warmth that family felt deeply loved and appreciated and acquaintances and friends, like family.

Above all he was most proud of his children and there was never a day that he did not show his love for them.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 22, at 11:30am at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street, Canton, MA with burial to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, ALZ.org and/or the Jewish National Fund, JNF.org to plant trees (Herbie loved trees!).
