Judith Greenfield (Koss) June 25, 2023

Date of Funeral

July 3, 2023

Judith Greenfield (Koss) sang her last out of tune song and did her last load of laundry June 25, 2023.  She passed away peacefully at home, in the company of her two daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother Richard Koss of South Carolina, and fur-children. An avid critic of obituaries, we can only hope our Dancing Queen approves when she reads this.

Judi’s generosity knew no bounds. Whether it was welcoming in cats, dogs, the occasional raccoon, or people, everyone found a place at Judi’s table. A feeder of friends, family, strangers, and birds, Judi would never hesitate to say three little words to let you know how much she cared: “Are you hungry?” It was a rhetorical question because if she loved you, she fed you and then made you a customized pillowcase and a sweater for your baby (or any baby you might know).

There are many ways to remember Judi. She was a dedicated gardener and conqueror of the hill behind her house. She was a prolific baker, pulling out her old recipe book (a pile of index cards and magazine clippings), and steadfastly ignoring every measurement. Quilting, and enjoying Malibu at quilting retreats, was one of her favorite hobbies. She was a great friend to many. She loved adventure but hated roller coasters. She was quick to laugh…at you or herself. A ray of very stubborn sunshine, Judi was a master of communicating when she was not happy without ever needing words. When she was happy, she honored her Jewish heritage by singing… Irish music… loudly, very loudly. Though she loved to travel and found friends everywhere she went, she was happiest when everyone was well-fed and swapping embarrassing stories at her table.

Judi is survived by her two daughters, Beth Lanigan and her husband Geoffrey of Braintree and  Rachel Greenfield of Jacksonville Florida. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren: Amanda and her husband Qutaiba; Marissa and her husband Sean; Victoria and her husband Jesse; Alexis and her partner Connor, and Patrick and his fiance Kaitlyn; two great granddaughters Rory and Remy ; a large extended family; and her sauce recipe (which is far superior to anyone else’s, in case you were wondering).

Though her sense of direction may have left us scratching our heads, we take comfort in knowing that she has found her way to her late husband, Normie, and is serenading him on a tropical beach somewhere.

The family would like to express their gratitude to her care team at Tufts Medical Center, especially Grace DaCunha and Dr. Young Kim; and a special thank you to Old Colony Hospice for their care and assistance in allowing Judi to spend her final days at home in the company of her loved ones.
