Evelyn F. Kavana, 83, of Walpole, MA, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born and raised in New York City, Evelyn was the beloved daughter of the late Alfred and Greta (Stern) Sucher. She earned her undergraduate degree from Harpur College and went on to complete her Master’s in Education at Goucher College. Evelyn was a very proud and accomplished elementary school teacher in the New York school system.
For 52 wonderful years, she was the cherished wife of Lawrence “Larry” Kavana, who predeceased her in 2019. Upon retirement, Evelyn and Larry relocated to Las Vegas, where they spent nearly 20 active years. Evelyn immersed herself in the community, substitute teaching and volunteering her time at the Summerlin Library. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with Larry—whether they were traveling, enjoying outings to the casinos, or watching sports, particularly horse racing, NFL football, and Major League Baseball.
Evelyn is survived by her devoted son, Michael Kavana, and his wife, Joann; and her two granddaughters, Melissa and Stephanie. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Marilyn Kavana, and her cousin, Judy Capullo, both of whom were like sisters to her.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Home Instead and the dedicated home health aides who provided exceptional care for Evelyn over the last seven years, with special thanks to Edith, Antoinette, and Patty.
Evelyn will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
