Date of Funeral

July 3, 2024

LANDA, Eleanor Barbara of Dedham, MA, died peacefully on July 1 at the age of 93. Born in Mattapan Massachusetts in 1931, she lived in the Boston area for the rest of her life.

She is survived by her daughters, Marcia Landa and Marjorie Landa as well as their husbands, Josh Goldman and David Sidman, 5 grandchildren and their spouses, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, along with her dear friend Lois Goldberg.

Eleanor was born into a family that included her parents, the late Ruth and Harry Halperin and younger sister, Carol Sholler. She graduated from Boston Girl’s Latin School, Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, and later obtained a master’s degree from Boston State College in education.

Eleanor married Leon in 1950 and together they had two daughters, Marcia and Marjorie. Although she was a homemaker during the 1950s and 60s, she also maintained many outside interests, including the League of Women Voters and The Sisterhood, a Jewish women’s organization.

As her daughters became more independent, she began working as a social worker with the elderly and later as the Administrator of several nursing homes.

She and Leon lived a full life together, playing tennis and duplicate bridge, performing with the “Center Players,” riding their bicycles, enjoying music and theater, and traveling the world.

Her family will remember her as a loving mother and wife, a voracious reader, a spirited supporter of all their endeavors, a loyal friend, and an adventurous explorer of ideas and the world.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on July 3 at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street, Canton, with the interment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street in Sharon. Shiva will be held at the home of Jonah Sidman & Laura Sheppard-Brick of Belmont immediately following the burial.

A lovely woman widowed from a lovely man, who together raised two lovely daughters. Always four of my favorite people for my whole life. The Landey branch of the family was fond of the Landa branch and grateful to have been related.
