It is with great sadness that her family announces the passing of Elaine Shirley (Mitchell) Corman of Stoughton, formerly of Sharon, at the age of 88.
Elaine is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Bobby Corman. The two met at a dance when Elaine was 12 and Bobby was 18 at the Mansion House in Sharon (current site of Temple Israel in Sharon). Bobby wanted to introduce Elaine to his younger sister, who had just moved to Sharon. When Elaine was 15 years old, Bobby went on some dates with Elaine at Lake Massapoag. Bobby went into the Marines and fought in the Korean War. When Elaine was 19 and Bobby was 25 and home from the war, they both went to a dance, but with different dates, at Cottage Street School in Sharon. Bobby noticed Elaine across the room and he melted. He dropped off his date and knew he wanted to marry Elaine. Elaine had 3 other boys that wanted to marry her and even had a college ring from one of the boys. She thankfully chose Bobby Corman and they were married within a year and got married at Corman’s Hotel (their family hotel in Sharon). They remained very much in love until the very end. A true love story.
She is the loving mother of three children: Steven (Johanna) Corman of Portland, ME, Bradley Corman, Lisa (Peter) Shactman of Portsmouth, NH, as well as the adored grandma/grammy Elaine of Silas Corman, Jake Shactman, Mayzie Corman and Julia Shactman. She also leaves numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
The daughter of the late Alice and Joseph Mitchell of Sharon, Elaine is predeceased by her brother, Arnold Michell.
Elaine was an independent woman before her time. She attended Sharon High School, playing forward for the girls’ basketball team, graduating in 1952. She then went on to Burdett College in Boston, graduating in 1954. While raising her children she worked as an executive assistant for United Liquors Distributors for many years. She was a leader in Hazak, Brandeis University’s Women’s Organization, and helped organize many high school reunions. She was an active member of Temple Israel in Sharon, an avid bridge player, and worked out at the gym until she was 85 years old.
Hers was a full, long, and meaningful life with a lot of love.
Services will be held on Sunday, November 13th at the Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street, Canton at 1pm with interment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon. Shivas to be held at the home of Bobby Corman, Stoughton on Sunday, following the interment until 7pm and also at the home of Lisa and Peter Shactman, Portsmouth NH on Tuesday, November 15th from 5p-9p.
Rest In Peace, Elaine. We will miss our wife, mother, and grandma/grammy Elaine forever.
