It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of David Berger on October 15, 2026, at the age of 97.
Born in Boston, MA, David dedicated his life to helping others. He earned an advanced degree in pharmacy and enjoyed a distinguished career as a pharmacist, first as the owner of Mattapan Square Pharmacy and later serving veterans through his work at the VA Hospital, where he completed his professional career.
On September 17, 1952, David married the love of his life, I. Beverly Berger, also a Boston native. Together they shared more than seven decades of marriage, raising their family.
David proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Stationed in Utah for two years, he and Beverly later settled in Sharon, MA, where they raised their family. He was a devoted father to his sons, Gary, Richard, and Steve, and a loving father-in-law to Mary.
He was a grandfather to Samantha, Katie, James, and Amanda, and a proud great-grandfather to Lincoln and Sebastian. Becoming a great-grandfather brought him immense joy. His face would light up whenever he was with his great-grandchildren, especially during time spent with four-year-old Lincoln, whose energy matched his own.
Outside of his profession, David was known for his passion for gardening, a hobby he enjoyed from the age of nine. His leadership and participation at the Sharon Community Garden and his award-winning tomatoes earned recognition over the years and were a source of great pride. He also loved tennis, music, and playing cards. Blessed with a beautiful singing voice, David was a member of The Irregulars, a Sharon choral group, and was often complimented on his vocals. Following his retirement in 1993, he founded the Sharon Men’s Club, creating a lasting community that continues to bring people together. In 2011, he was honored by the Men’s Club with the title of President Emeritus.
A funeral service will be held at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street, Canton, MA, on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Hand in Hand Cemetery, 2690 Centre St., West Roxbury.
A gathering for family and friends will be held immediately following the burial at Tavern in the Square, 985 Providence Hwy, Dedham, MA between 12:30PM – 3:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs VA Boston Healthcare System in the VA New England Healthcare Network in gratitude for the compassionate care and support provided to David throughout the years.
