The lovely Corinne Dame (Cambridge, formerly Newton and Belmont) left us on December 28th, 2023.
Corinne was born to Etta (Gordon) and James (Jack) Kaplan on June 18, 1924 and shared her life with her brother David B. Kaplan. Corinne’s formative years were spent surviving the hardships of The Great Depression in Dorchester and Brookline, MA. Those tough years taught her incredible self-discipline, a lifelong ability to make the most out of very little, and an amazing ability to push on without complaint.
Corinne attended Brookline High and was accepted to Duke University. Her parents felt it was unbecoming for a young Jewish girl to be away from home, so the opportunity to further her education was missed. During World War II, Corinne volunteered as a draftswoman for the U.S. Army at the Watertown Arsenal. Soon after the war ended, she met Samuel Dame and after a short whirlwind romance, she proposed to him, and they were married just nine weeks after they met!
The couple soon welcomed sons Evan and Douglas Dame and created loving and energetic homes in Waban and Belmont, with summers in Nantasket and Magnolia.
Corinne always provided love and support to her many friends. Most importantly, the family was everything to her. She had 15 aunts and uncles and dozens of cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Corinne had an exceptional lifelong bond with her younger brother David and his family. Generations of friends and relatives enjoyed celebrating holidays at the Dames, even if she wasn’t exactly a gourmet chef, there was always food on the table, a lively discussion, and tons of laughter.
Corinne was also a trailblazer. She created Dame Associates, an exhibit and trade show business, at a time before women entered the business world. Dame Associates also allowed her to work with her sons, whom she took great pride in.
Corinne lived a full, fun, and fulfilling life, of adventure, new experience, and travel. She was fiercely loyal, supportive, devoted and loving to her many friends and family. Sadly, she was the last of her generation in this family. Her outlook on life served as an absolute INSPIRATION for everyone who knew and loved her.
Services will be held at Sharon Memorial Park on Sunday December 31st, 2023 at 12:45 PM. Everyone who will attend will meet behind the administration building, at 40 Dedham Street in Sharon.
Donations in Corinne’s honor should be made to ALS Association, 200 Friberg Parkway, Suite 1000, Westborough,MA 01581
