October 18, 2022

Our beloved mother and family matriarch, Barbara Norman (Dorfman, Murmes), of Natick MA formerly of Brookline, Newton, and Needham MA passed away in the early morning hours of October 12, 2022 with family by her side, holding her as she transitioned to Heaven.

Barbara was a smart and caring woman whose beauty radiated throughout her 90 young years. She had a quick wit, kind soul, and was a loyal friend and confidant. She was always there to lend an ear and help day or night with guidance. She was a strong, funny, loving, unique individual with a fabulous sense of fashion and style, great hair, and never without her lipstick. She enjoyed Mah Jong with friends, going to the theater, an occasional trip to the casino, shopping, and going out to eat with friends, family, clients, and co-workers.

In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She especially loved watching and cheering them on at their various sports games. She was “Nana B” to so many of their friends. To say she had a huge heart would be an understatement. She was a joy to all who met her. There was not a birthday or family party she did not attend. Barbara is predeceased by her loving husband, Sol Norman, AKA “Papa Sol”, the love of her life. Sol now has his “Bunny” in heaven with him.

Barbara ‘s professional life included creating “Queens Jewels Co.” with her love of all kinds of jewelry. In 1987 she opened ERA Lagrange Properties with her son Matthew. Her real estate career spanned more than 40 years working at CENTURY 21 Commonwealth and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Commonwealth. Both Barbara and daughter Laura enjoyed working together forming lifelong relationships and friendships with their clients.

Barbara grew up on Stedman Street in Brookline, MA with her parents, the late Myer and Deborah Dorfman, late brother Harold Dorfman, and her late grandmother, Dora Allen (Mother of 10). Their home was a revolving door of visiting aunts, uncles, and cousins. She went to the Devotion School, Brookline High School, and Mount Ida College.

Barbara is predeceased by her loving husband Sol Norman, and former husband Leonard Murmes. Barbara is survived by her four children: Laura Schindler and husband, David Schindler of Natick, Julie Murmes of Waltham, Matthew Murmes and wife Jill Murmes of Hingham, Dianne Malloy and ex-spouse Dana Malloy of Natick. Niece, Marcia Dorfman Markey, who was like a daughter to Barbara. Her grandchildren: Melissa Schindler and fiancé Adam Baratz, Jennifer Schindler and partner Michael Treadwell, Benjamin Schindler and wife Heather Macfarlane, Elizabeth Schindler and husband Matthew Clark, Danielle Stamford and husband Ross Stamford, Andrew Murmes, Jack Murmes-Jaroz, Dallas Malloy, and Daisy Malloy.
