Alan R. Shapiro of Canton passed away on June 15, 2021 at 85 years of age. Devoted son of the late Eli and Jennie Shapiro. Beloved husband of the late Marcia E. Shapiro. Loving father of Richard Shapiro and his wife Heather, Melissa Ciotoli and her fiancé Donald Fries, Neil Shapiro and his wife Julie, and the late Janet Shapiro Mustin. Cherished grandfather of nine wonderful grandchildren. Dear brother of Lillian Fine, the late Oscar Shapiro and Rabbi Aharon Shapiro. Alan, a graduate of Dartmouth College, was a lifelong engineer, serial entrepreneur and working musician. A trumpet player, he was a founding member of the Dartmouth Indian Chiefs during his time in college. He was later active in many local bands, the Sharon Community Band and, for a time, the leader of the Dixie Diehards. Kind and generous, with a dry wit, he was loved by many.
Services will be held at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street, Canton, on Friday, June 18th at 12:30 pm, followed by burial at Sharon Memorial Park.

June 19, 2021 at 6:24 pmAlan was one of the nicest men I ever met. I moved to Orchard Cove shortly after Alan and Marcia and dined with him once a week until Alan moved to the skilled floor. He was full of stories, humor, and knowledge of music. I’ll never forget him.
