Betsy Lee Schwartz-Troilo, née Stone, passed away on September 26, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on December 31, 1938, in Boston, she was the daughter of Miriam and Harry Stone. Betsy grew up in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and was a proud graduate of Brookline High School. She went on to attend The Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists, where she earned her degree and began a career she truly enjoyed.
Betsy met her first husband, Joel, while attending college, and together they had three children. She raised her family in Longmeadow, Massachusetts, before returning to the Boston area following her divorce.
Then, one day, a patient came in for a dental cleaning. As Betsy always did, she struck up a conversation, and that patient, Bernie Troilo, would become the love of her life. They were married for 34 years and built a wonderful life together. Betsy was delighted to become part of Bernie’s big Italian family, embracing their traditions and sharing her own. Together, they loved traveling in their motor home, spending winters in Florida, and enjoying seafood by the water with a Cosmo in hand.
Betsy was an avid Boston sports fan. She was also an enthusiastic golfer in her younger years and even recorded a hole-in-one—a feat she was rightfully proud She loved music, whether listening, dancing, or singing along, and one of her favorite pastimes was playing cards with family and friends. Betsy was a wonderful cook and took great pleasure in preparing meals for the people she loved.
Betsy was never one to keep her opinions to herself. Whether about sports or politics, her views were strong, her language could be stronger, and there was never any question where she stood.
Above all else, Betsy loved her family. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by the people she loved, and she made sure they always knew how much they meant to her.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, Bernie, and her cherished children, Susan Schwartz (Ben), Beth Chesworth (Michael), and Eric Schwartz. She also leaves her stepchildren, Paul Troilo, Robert Troilo, Michele Troilo, and Gina Naumann, whom she loved as her own. Betsy was a devoted grandmother to 15 grandchildren, who will forever carry her love, joy, and memory in their hearts.
Betsy lived a full, vibrant life surrounded by family, friends, music, laughter, good food, sports, and travel. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Services will be held at the Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill in Canton, Massachusetts, on Wednesday, September 30, at 12:00 p.m. with the interment to follow at Highland Cemetery, 320 Winter Street in Norwood, MA.
Shiva will be held at the home of Betsy & Bernie Troilo immediately following the burial and continuing Thursday, 1-4PM and 6-8PM.
