Marvin W. Spellman February 20, 2024

Marvin Spellman entered into eternal rest on February 20, 2024.  He was born in 1927 in The Bronx and lived in Great Neck until he retired and moved to Boca Raton.  He married the love of his life, Sally Sacks, in 1950 after meeting at an office party on the 55th floor of the Empire State Building a few years earlier.  Together they raised a family in the New York area and settled in Great Neck.  They recently celebrated their 73^rd wedding anniversary!

He and Sally enjoyed playing golf, tennis. and bridge, and traveled the world together. They especially enjoyed going to Broadway shows, a legacy that they passed to their children.  He was an actor in many community theaters in New York, Florida, and North Carolina, where they spent summers. He loved the New York Jets and attended many games at Shea Stadium with his sons.  He was never a baseball fan, but still took his boys to Mets games and diligently filled out box scores with them throughout the games.  He was also a little league coach, and a wonderful golf and tennis partner to his boys.

Marvin enlisted in the Navy during WW II.  Following his service, he had a lifelong career in textiles as a partner in a firm specializing in design and production of men’s clothing.  He was so admired that even after retirement he was recruited to continue working part time traveling to Asia, benefitted by the many friendships and connections he had nurtured there over the years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Irving, mother Mary, sister Arline, and grandsons Yaakov and Matthew.

He leaves behind his cherished wife Sally, his loving children, Michael (Debra), Steven (Marianne), and Roger (Marcia); his beloved grandchildren Jonathan, Elizabeth (Adam), Shoshana (Avriel), Emily, Hannah (Tuvy), Elisheva, Aliza (Jonah), Gavriel; and six great-grandchildren, Zevi, Ami, Dani, Ruby, Luke, and Rachel.  Marvin also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends and “extended family,” the Sadakas.  He will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, as having an ever-present smile, gracious manners, and a wonderful sense of humor.  He especially loved his role as grandpa.  We will always carry your memory in our hearts.

The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the staff at Care One and hospice nurses for their support during this difficult time, and to the many aides that cared for him over the years, especially our dear friend Imelda.
