Susan Joan Harris September 23, 1942 - May 21, 2025

Date of Funeral

May 25, 2025

Susan (Rice) Harris of Natick passed away on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025 at 82 years of age. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Saul & Bernice (Goldberg) Rice.

Susan graduated from Newton High School and received a BA in History from Boston University. She was a talented interior decorator, helping families design homes around the Boston area. She proudly contributed to the family business, Waltham Wallpaper & Paint, founded by her maternal grandparents in 1905.

Susan was the beloved wife of James Harris. She was the loving mother of Brian Snerson and his wife Caryn, Jed Snerson and his wife Vivian. She was the cherished grandmother of Evan, Lauren, and Thomas, and the dear sister of Alan.

Susan was a wonderful daughter to Bernice and Saul, setting the model for her children. She was selfless, caring beyond words, and interested in all the details of the lives of her loved ones. She sought new adventures and enjoyed the outdoors, including traveling across Europe and hiking Mount Katahdin with Jim, canoeing on the Charles River to picnic, gardening, and strolling through Elm Bank chatting with friends.

Susan created memories for her family. She took her boys to Beach Boys and Chicago concerts in the Commons, ski trips with friends in Vermont, and Celtics and Patriots games. She began a summer family tradition in Harwich, filled with lobster dinners, miniature golf, trampoline outings with the kids, and days in the warm sun, reading and playing Scrabble at the beach.

Susan diligently planned ahead for the grandkids’ visits. Trips to children’s museums, science shows, the community farm, and events at the Bacon Free Library. She always found a unique gift that was just right, and they loved every moment with her. She adored her daughters-in-law as much as her own kids, and the feeling was mutual.

Susan gathered with her close friends for mah-jongg, bridge and canasta – and played to win!  She established many of the groups, connecting friends from different circles. She spent winters in West Palm Beach, playing golf, and meeting with new and long-standing friends, as she did wherever she went.

Granny, we love you!
