Phyllis D. Shucher passed quietly on the evening of January 29. She spent much of that day surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren and their families.
Phyllis Deborah Silverman was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts and graduated from Lawrence High School. She took a clerical job after completing school with Jonell Shoe Manufacturing in Lawrence.
She met WWII veteran Maurice M. Shucher, and they were married in 1957. Together they settled in Randolph, Massachusetts and raised three children there, Scott, Nancy and Lori.
As the kids grew older, Phyllis worked as a bookkeeper, and then a bank teller in Randolph, Quincy and Sharon, Massachusetts. In her free time, she worked as a homemaker and loved spending time at the beach. As her “banking” career grew she rose to an Assistant Vice President with Bank of Boston. She was well-loved by her customers.
In retirement she snow-birded to Florida, was an avid Mah Jong player, and loved her “Bingo” nights. She was pre-deceased by her husband Maurice in 2014. After Maurice’s passing, Phyllis settled in Middleboro, Massachusetts near her daughter Lori. Phyllis loved having her little home she could truly call her own. She spent her time playing Mah Jong, and Bingo, visiting her grandchildren, and lunch dates with her son Scott.
More recently, and as her health deteriorated, her daughter Nancy and son-in-law Nicholas moved into Middleboro with her for varying amounts of time, so she could maintain her living independence. Due to the heartfelt and tireless efforts of her loving daughters, and dedicated caregivers, Phyllis was able to stay in her beloved home until just hours before her passing.
Phyllis leaves her three children, Scott Shucher and his wife, Terry Quinn of Medway, MA, Nancy Norton and her husband Nicholas Norton of Delray Beach, Florida, and Lori Homer and her husband, Winthrop J. Homer of Middleboro, MA. She leaves six grandchildren Nicholas Norton, Jr. of Wakefield, MA, Brian Norton and his wife Brittney of Honolulu, Hawaii, Kimberly Norton and her husband Donald Reddington of Middleboro, MA, Samuel Shucher and his wife Margaret Heffernan of Chicago, Illinois, Thomas Homer of Salem, NH, and Casey McGrath of Middleboro, MA. Phyllis was fortunate to know six great grandchildren, Donny, Dahlia, Ezra, Elias, Julian and Harrison.
Services for Phyllis will be held on Monday February 3rd, 2025 at 11:00AM, followed by interment at Lindwood Memorial Park in Randolph.
Phyllis was a long-time survivor of breast cancer, and any donations can be made in her name to the V Foundation for Cancer Research. www.v.org
