Philip Solomon March 29, 2025

Date of Funeral

April 1, 2025

Philip Solomon, age 80, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, in Braintree, Massachusetts. Born April 8, 1944, in New York City to Sol and Rose Solomon, Philip lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and a deep commitment to helping others.

Raised in Brooklyn, Philip graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School before pursuing higher education at Brooklyn College of Pharmacy. He later earned a master’s degree in counseling at New York University, reflecting his lifelong passion for understanding and supporting the emotional well-being of others.

He began his professional journey as a retail pharmacist but soon discovered his calling for education and then later in mental health. He transitioned into teaching middle school science, where he inspired young minds with curiosity and care. After relocating to Coral Springs, Florida in 1983 to be closer to family, he found his true vocation as a psychotherapist specializing in geriatrics and family counseling. In this role, he touched countless lives with his empathy and wisdom.

A devoted family man, Philip is lovingly remembered by his wife Gail Solomon, married 55 years; daughters Meredith Solomon and Stacey Solomon (Melvin Rogers); granddaughter Samara Nyima Solomon-Sanneh; adoptive daughter Helene Tepper (Mike Tepper); and adoptive grandchildren Adam Tepper and Eric Tepper. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law Jeffrey Soforenko; nieces Jami Cutrell (Larry Cutrell), Mindy Solomon, and Lisa Jackson (Leslie Jackson); great-nephews Landon Cutrell and Harrison Cutrell; and Zack and Tyler Jackson and great-nieces Emma Garcia and Jordan Jackson.

He was predeceased by his parents Sol and Rose Solomon; parents-in-law Milton and Harriet Soforenko; brother and sister-in-law Fred and Pat Solomon; and sister-in-law Marcia Soforenko.

Philip’s life was enriched by many passions. He was an avid racquetball player and scuba diver in his younger years. For 28 years, he was a seasonal ticket patron for the Miami Heat. He also was a big Science Fiction fan and a “Trekkie” addict. Throughout his life he was a devoted Jew who sang in the choir at Temple Beth Am and later continued this cherished tradition at other congregations. After relocating part-time to Massachusetts, he became a member of Congregation Beth Shalom of the Blue Hills, where his daughters already belonged.

His commitment to community extended beyond worship. Philip volunteered tirelessly for the Alzheimer’s Association, serving on the Board of Directors of the Alzheimer’s Family Center and facilitated free support groups for families affected by Alzheimer’s disease—offering comfort, guidance, and solidarity during their most difficult times.

Known for his generous spirit and boundless compassion, Philip had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Extroverted by nature with a great sense of humor, he loved talking to everyone he met—whether friend or stranger—and made each person feel seen and valued. He had an uncanny ability to be a big teddy bear but he never hesitated to have his grizzly bear surface when standing up for what he believed in and defending the underdog. To many, he was like a father figure whose warmth left an indelible mark.

Philip also had a deep appreciation for nature’s beauty. He especially loved waking up every morning to see the ocean from the view of his Boca Raton condo. Moving close to the beach was always a dream of his. He was also fond of animals, especially dogs. His love for animals mirrored the kindness that defined every aspect of his life.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 1st, 12:00 PM at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the HIll, 824 Washington Street, Canton, Massachusetts. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street in Sharon.
