Peter Kovat of Sharon, MA, formerly of Newton and Brockton, MA passed away surrounded by the love of his wife and son on January 19, 2022. He tried valiantly to come home from a heart surgery that led to overwhelming complications.
He was the beloved and humorous husband of Martha (Roth) Kovat. Loving father and best friend of Zachary Kovat. Devoted son of the late Stephen and Estelle (Wiesberg) Kovat.
He was born and educated in New York City, fondly remembering life with his parents on West 86th and Riverside Drive. He lived in New York, California, and Boston, graduating from the University of Massachusetts Boston with a degree in American history.
His kind intelligence caused him to reach out to people as he managed a couple of restaurants in the North End of Boston and prepared taxes for people he looked forward to talking with every year. He had the perspective of the history he majored in, and the news he followed avidly. He was a realist.
And he concluded that living on a tiny farm in Sharon with the many dogs, cats, horses, chickens, and a rabbit (having sailed Lake Massapoag and among the islands of Boston Harbor til his heart acted up) was a joyful way to spend his days with Martha and Zachary and nearby family and friends. Wisdom personified in a slender man with a slight stutter and a knowing eye.
Services for Peter will be held from the Schlossberg Family’s Chapel, 824 Washington Street, Canton, MA on Tuesday, January 25th at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery, 101 East Street, Sharon, MA.

January 23, 2022 at 11:05 pmDear Martha and family,
I am so sorry for the loss of dear Peter. I remember, with fondness, his stories of caring for your animals, especially the chickens! Your love was evident to all who saw you two together, an example of devotion, friendship and partnership. You are in my prayers. Please let me know if I can assist in any way going forward. Again, my condolences and love.
