Merrill Kass of Foxborough died on Wednesday, September 25th after a long lived and full life, at 94 years of age. He was born in Boston on July 6, 1930, the son of the late Wolf & Sophie (Cohen) Kass. Merrill served in the Naval Reserves during the Korean conflict. Professionally, Merrill worked as an HVAC Technician for 42 years retiring in 1994. At 21 years old he married Maxine Fried and by the age of 25 he had two young sons. He loved to share his mechanical talents with his boys had them both welding by the time they were 5 years old. Merrill also shared his strong interest in the safe and responsible use of firearms .with Bill and Bryon. He belonged to the Sharon Fish and Game club for 60 plus years becoming one of the top competition pistol shooters in the state. Merrill and Maxine, who predeceased him in 2018, also had a love for boating and fishing. They spent many a summer day out in their 32’ Sport Fisherman style boat that he built out of wood at his house in Foxborough. Merrill was quite the craftsman, building a boat that large by hand from the keel up. He chiseled the rib notches and steam bent every rib made of white oak. A two and a half year project that they enjoyed for 40 Summers. He also found time in his retirement for community service delivering meals on wheels and sitting on the Foxborough Municipal Building Committee for about 30 years.
He is survived by his son Bill & his wife Mary of Foxborough. He was the cherished grandfather of Sophie and her husband David of Jacksonville, FL, Sarah of Foxborough and Emily of Foxborough. He also leaves his son Bryon of Foxborough.
A shiva/remembrance of life will be held at the Kass residence in Foxborough on Sunday, October 6th from Noon to 4:00pm. A private burial service will take place at Sharon Memorial Park.
