Martin Wood, 78, of South Dartmouth, MA, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025. Known to his family and friends as “Marty,” he was born on June 10, 1946, in a displaced persons camp in Landsberg, Germany, the eldest son of the late Rosa (Gold) and Morris Wood, both Holocaust survivors.
Marty is survived by his beloved wife, Liz Martin; his son, Ethan Wood (Stefani) of Sharon, MA; and his daughter, Ilissa Wood Lipworth (Jared) of Potomac, MD. He was the cherished brother of Paula Wood of Centerville, MA, and Miami Beach, FL, and the late Dr. Nelson Wood of Hyannis, MA. He was also the brother-in-law of Patty and Dr. David Shocket of Dartmouth, MA, and Washington, DC. Marty’s memory lives on in his beloved grandchildren—Emma, Alex, Sadie, and Meyer—and his adored nieces Elana and Leah Dyer, and Eliza and Mia Shocket.
Marty earned his B.S. in Accounting from Bentley College and his J.D. from New England School of Law. In the early years of his legal career, he was deeply committed to assisting immigrants from the Soviet Union as they resettled in the United States. Later, he transitioned into real estate, developing and managing properties in southern Massachusetts. In retirement, Marty discovered a passion for painting. He became a talented and devoted artist with a loyal local following and was an active member of both the Westport Art Group and South Coast Artists.
Services will be held at Schlossberg Memorial Chapel, 824 Washington Street, Canton, MA on Tuesday, May 13, at 2:30 PM, followed by Shiva at the home of Ethan and Stefani Wood in Sharon, MA.
