Lorraine G. Simon, of Randolph, passed away March 18, 2024, at the age of 86, surrounded by loving family following a long battle with Crohn’s disease. Daughter of the late Samuel and Bertha Kirzner. Beloved wife of over 64 years to the late Leonard Simon. Loving mother of Roy Simon & his wife Sandra, Daniel Simon & his late wife Teresa, Elissa Simon-Morrissey & her husband, Daniel Morrissey. Cherished Nana of John (and wife Mikaela), Thomas (and wife Alanna), Joyce (and husband Hunter), Patrick, DJ, Joshua (and wife Taylor), Erica and Allison. Loving big sister to Carole, Michael and Debbie, dear Auntie to many loved nieces and nephews and friend to all.
Lorraine grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls before briefly attending art school to pursue her passion for the arts. Lorraine and Lenny, moved to Randolph in the late 1950’s to continue growing their family. After staying at home with her children, Lorraine, with the support of her husband and best friend, earned her college education. Starting with an Associate degree from Massasoit Community College, then earned her Bachelor in Education and later her Masters in Guidance and Counseling from Bridgewater State College.
She worked as a teacher and then landed her dream position as a counselor in the LATCH program at Massasoit, where she worked for decades. In retirement, she spent more time with her family, and grandchildren. She and Lenny shared their love of country music and travelled annually to Texas to visit their many friends and musicians. Dancing the Texas two-step, they waltzed across Texas. She could be found enjoying live classic country music and even singing a song or two when invited to the stage at the American Legion George Bean Post in Weymouth. Lorraine was also a world traveler who loved meeting new people. Lorraine was an avid reader and advocate of reading. She volunteered to read to the children of Head Start in Brockton for many years as she loved sharing the joy of reading. She also led a book group at the Turner Free Library in Randolph. Lorraine was an active community member (long time member of Temple Beth Am, several boards including at Self Help in Brockton, past town meeting member and election volunteer). Lorraine taught mahjong at the Randolph senior center, participated in several ostomy support groups, and for the past 2 years lead a grief support group at B’nai Tikvah. Lorraine also dedicated herself as a caregiver to her husband, Lenny. Lorraine was a positive light whose optimism and generosity was felt by those that met her.
