Harvey Solomon, 91, of Quincy, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 5, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda Solomon (Somer), children Sharyn Malnati and her husband Ed Malnati of Randolph, MA, Jeffrey Solomon and his partner Karissa Moreno of Santa Rosa, CA, and grandchildren Sam Malnati of Pasadena, CA and Josh Malnati of Somerville, MA.
Harvey was born on January 21, 1934, in New York, NY, the youngest of five children, to the late Lillian and Sigmund Solomon. Two brothers born in Hungary did not survive. His parents moved to New York, where his older sisters Rose (Solomon) Ellengold (deceased) and Blanche (Solomon) Breines, now in Florida grew up, on the Lower East Side. He was also blessed to have two more sisters, Maida LaMell (Seaman) and Judy Seaman, who were part of the family of his beloved Jewish Big Brother, Colonel Milton Seaman, USAF.
After high school, Harvey enlisted in the Air Force, working as a Seargent during the Korean War Conflict. He met his future wife on a blind date and were married in 1962. Harvey and Rhonda raised their family in Canarsie, Brooklyn, NY. In 1974, working as a Production Manager in Cahners Publishing, the offices moved from New York to Boston, and Harvey and Rhonda made the decision to move the family to Quincy, MA.
Harvey was an active member, then President and achieved the rank of Commander of the Jewish War Veterans Post #193 in Quincy. He loved his role serving veterans of all branches at various annual events, including barbeques for Brockton VA veterans, assisting and participating at the Hough’s Neck fishing trip, and many more. He was honored and proud to present the post’s scholarships to 3-5 local town high school students (Quincy, Weymouth, and Hingham) in the JWV national program, Classmates Today/Neighbors Tomorrow, where the students did not apply for, but were chosen by their schools for their own charitable work in their school and communities. Because of these, he found himself in the local newspaper’s photos for many years, shaking hands with local politicians that he knew well. He deeply loved his Temple Ohabei Shalom community, singing the Hebrew songs at services, and active in the TOS Brotherhood. Harvey loved his work, and when he retired, the most that he missed was his friends there. Less than a month after he retired, he worked for Big Brother/Big Sister, doing what he loved best, talking on the phone.
Charming is a word that everyone can agree fits him well. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
Other ones who were loved by him include Kendra Clifton, his nephew Steven Brienes and his family, of Staten Island, NY, and the nephews and his niece who have passed on too early, cousins in Brooklyn, NY, Wendy Levine and numerous friends from both TOS and TBD.
Harvey’s funeral service will be held on Friday, February 7 at 12:00 pm at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street., Canton, MA 02021.
For those who are unable to attend the service in person, a Zoom link will be on the schlossbergchapel.com website (see below).
Interment follows at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon, MA. Following the interment, there will be a meal of consolation at Temple Beth David of the South Shore.
The family will be sitting shiva at Temple Beth David of the South Shore, 1060 Randolph St., Canton MA 02021 on the evening of Monday, February 10, at 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to either Temple Beth David of the South Shore, 1060 Randolph St., Canton MA 02021 (templebethdavid.org) or to Temple Ohabei Shalom, 1187 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA 02446 (ohabei.org).

February 6, 2025 at 9:15 pmMy sister, Maida, and I were lucky to have had Harvey in our lives ever since we were very little. Harvey was our father’s ‘little brother’ and we loved it when he would come over for Friday night dinner and at many other times. He was part of our family and we feel so lucky to be part of the Solomon/Malnati family. My girls remember Harvey and Rhonda visiting in Teaneck and playing in the backyard. Harvey was kind, funny, smart, warm, and caring of others. May the memory be a blessing.
