Estelle M. Gordon, formerly of Newton, passed away peacefully on January 31 at her residence in Medway. Born in Boston, Estelle was the daughter of the late Milton and Helen (Aronson) Davis. She grew up in Roxbury. In the early 1950s Estelle married Samuel H. Bass of Chelsea. Together they owned and operated a launderette across the street from their apartment in Brighton. They had one daughter, Cheryl Hope. Samuel passed away in 1967 leaving Estelle a single mother.
In 1971 she and Cheryl moved to Newton. Estelle began a new career as an Administrative Assistant, working in the Insurance industry and then for Composer/Pianist Minueta Kessler. In 1975 Estelle married Nathaniel Z. Gordon, of Boston. They made their life together in Newton until his death in 2005. Estelle and Nat travelled to Italy, Hawaii and throughout the U.S., they performed in the Showtime Singers choral group and enjoyed many dinners at Mandarin Cuisine in Needham. Estelle’s passion was singing and listening to music. She belonged to several choral groups over the years. She played Mahjong, enjoyed painting, art and gourmet cooking. Estelle prepared the food for family’s traditional holiday dinners and celebrations. Estelle loved the two days a week she spent caring for her two granddaughters when they were young. Today they are young adults, Samantha J. Binder of Natick and Alexandra L. Binder of Denver, Colorado. She is survived by her sister, Arlene H. Sweet of Canton. Her brother was the late Wesley J. Davis of Randolph.
Funeral services will be held at the Chapel at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon on Monday, February 6 at 1:00pm, In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to one of her favorite charities, Boston Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
