Ellen J. Rubin, formerly of Norton, MA, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023 at the age of 76. Devoted daughter of Lewis and Inna (Troupin) Rubin. Loving mother of Aaron O’Hearn and his wife Ashleigh, and grandmother to Henry and Elliot. Dear sister of the late Steve Rubin. She leaves behind many cousins and many friends.
Ellen was a renaissance woman with a unique view of the world. Ellen grew up in Norton, MA and devoted herself to playing the harp at a young age. Ellen performed at the White House for President Kennedy and later attended Case Western Reserve to further her musical career. Ellen played for thousands of people throughout the years, but her favorite was playing her harp at local churches around the Christmas holiday.
Beyond her career as a classical harpist, Ellen followed in her father’s footsteps as a civic leader, archivist and historian. She had a remarkable memory and interest in the Portuguese community, specifically in Southeastern Massachusetts. Her passion for history led her to work with a renowned Antiquarian Society. Ellen loved the arts and always supported the AFL-CIO and their connection to the American Federation of Musicians. She took great delight in passionately supporting causes and movements she was passionate about. Beyond all of this, she found great peace by being in nature and watching elephants.
A small graveside service will be held at Agudas Achim Cemetery on South Main Street in Attleboro, MA on Monday, August 28 at 11:00AM.
A celebration of life will take place immediately following the service. Please join the family at Colonel Blackinton Inn on North Main Street in Attleboro between 12p and 3p. This event is the courtesy from the Estate of Steven Rubin.
