Barbara White passed away on August 27, 2021 at the age of 90 in her home, surrounded by her loved ones.
Barbara was born, the youngest of seven children, to Ethel and Joseph Lane on June 29, 1931 in the South End neighborhood of Boston. The city of Boston was always a collection of family, friends, and friends-to-be for Barbara. A prolific story teller, she made friends with everyone who crossed her path – from a fish monger who sold just the right type of fish for her holiday specialty, gefilte fish – to the man who ran a sandwich shop across from her beauty parlor. She could transform a stranger’s face from a burdened frown one moment to a surprised, mirthful smile the next. It was simply impossible to ignore the joy in life when she was around. When particularly happy, Barbara would do a little dance, which her granddaughter Madeleine dubbed “the Bubi shuffle.”
Barbara is survived by her son, Bob, daughter, Judy, four grandchildren, Alexandra, Philip, Samantha and Madeleine, as well as too many nieces, nephews and their offspring to name, all whom she showered with so much love (and matzoh ball soup).
A funeral service will be held at Schlossberg Chapel, 824 Washington street, Canton, Ma on August 30, 2021 at 1p.m. Interment will be at the Sharon Memorial Park immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Yiddish Book Center: https://www.yiddishbookcenter.org/ , the American Cancer society: https://www.cancer.org/
