Alfred L. Mayer of Sharon passed away peacefully, with his family beside him on Tuesday, September 10th at 93 years of age. Alfred was born in Germany, the son of the late Hugo and Bella Mayer. The family left Germany when Alfred was a young child and moved to the United States and settled in Framingham. He was the beloved husband of the late Charlotte (Sirkin) Mayer. Alfred was the last of his generation, having outlived his brothers-in-law and their wives. They were the late Julius Sirkin & his wife Barbara, David Sirkin & his wife Thelma and Daniel Sirkin & his wife Mary. Alfred became a US citizen in 1949 and graduated from Framingham High School in 1950. He joined the US Amy during the Korean conflict and rose to the rank of sergeant. He received the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star, A Presidential Unit Citation, The United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After he was discharged, Al worked as a Dry Cleaner Delivery Driver, then he worked at Lechmere Sales, following that he worked at JC Penney and later drove a Wise Potato Chip route for his brother-in-law, Daniel. His final job was his favorite. For 18 years he was the “E-2”elevator operator at Gillette Stadium, a position from which he only recently retired. His funeral service will take place at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington St., Canton of Friday, September 13th at 9:30AM. Interment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon. Immediately following the burial, Shiva will be held at the “V” the VFW at 337 Cocasset Street, Foxborough. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 320 Nevada St., #201, Newton, MA 02460.
