Ilyana Schlossberg is the youngest of Louis Schlossberg’s six grandchildren and the Vice President for Strategic Planning, Media and Community Relations at The Schlossberg Family Chapel. She attended Fordham University in New York City majoring in Child Psychology and English. Her early passion for children was only outrivaled by her passion for sports, a blessing and curse inherited from her die hard Boston Sports fan father, Ken. She was recruited to work in the Media Relations department at the NBA League Office in NY and eventually went on to write stories for various sports publications including Inside Stuff, ESPNtheMag, SI and SIforKids, covering both the NFL and NBA. She remains a die hard fan of the Pats, Sox and C’s.
Though Ilyana grew up in New York she spent every summer on C Street in Nantasket with the only person who loved the beach more than her, her Bubbie Annette Schlossberg. While it was Louis “Pappa” Schlossberg who was the face of the Schlossberg Chapel it was Annette who was, and will always remain its heart and Ilyana, hopes every day to make her Bubbie proud by reflecting the values she instilled in her of honesty, loyalty and compassion for those who need it most.
When SCI, a publicly traded company headquartered in Texas who bought both the Stanetsky and Levine Funeral homes tried their hardest to buy the Schlossberg Chapel from her grandfather Louis, he made it clear he would never sell to them and strongly believed that remaining independent was the only way to ensure that families would retain truly personalized service and none of the hard sales tactics and commission based incentives that families are subjected to when big corporations get involved in funerals. Ilyana’s grandfather Louis believed that funerals were sacred and the relationship between a Funeral Director and the family they serve is based on that sacred trust and that a public corporation, by it’s very definition, could never put the needs of individual families first. As her father Ken did before her, she has committed herself to ensuring that there will always be a Schlossberg running the Schlossberg Family Chapel, remaining Independent and truly putting families first. Ilyana is currently attending American Academy McAllister Institute and expects to become a fully licensed funeral director in 2023. It is her great hope that she receives her license before the Patriots, Red Sox or Celtics really do kill her.
