Claire Kadet

October 3, 1927 – May 11 , 2025

Sharon, Massachusetts

Claire Selma Levine Miller Kadet, age 97, passed away peacefully in her home in Sharon, MA on May 11, 2025. Claire was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and friend.

Claire was predeceased by her first husband, Nathan Miller, her second husband, Leo Kadet, and her grandson Andrew. She is survived by her children, Sam, Ellen, Hessa, Paula, Tobi, and Arnie; her children-in-law Elyse, Peter, Mary Jo, and Sharon; her delightful grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law, Cara, Andrea, Jenny, Jon, Adam, Vanessa, Arielle, Nate M., Matthew, Nate L., Dror, Joy, Katie, and Deanna; and her beautiful great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Julian, Tali, Andrew, Maya, Noa, Aaron, Levi, and Olivia.

Born in New York City to Meyer and Dora Levine, Claire grew up in Laurelton, Queens, and attended Far Rockaway High School, where she graduated in 1945. Claire was also a 1949 graduate of Queens College. She married Nathan in 1949 and, after he passed away in 1968, Leo in 1974.

Claire lived in Elmont, Long Island, for some 40 years. She was a stalwart in her synagogue, the Elmont Jewish Center; in the mid-1960s, she was named and feted as “Queen Esther”, an award bestowed annually on a leading woman in the congregation. When she and Leo moved to Sharon in the early 1990s, they quickly became active congregants at Temple Sinai, which remained close to Claire’s heart until her passing.

For many years, Claire was a kindergarten and first-grade teacher. She spent the majority of her career in the Elmont Public School District, where she was also a fierce advocate and leader of the teacher’s union. Claire maintained a lifelong interest in politics and was an early member of the New York State Liberal Party.

Claire was an excellent bowler and won trophies in her women’s summer league during the 1970s for league high game of the season (225) and high series. She was a knitter par excellence, churning out beautiful sweaters, other wearables, and blankets for her large family and charitable organizations. Claire also excelled at Scrabble, Rummikub, Wordle, and, especially, The New York Times Crossword, passions that ultimately hooked her children as well. And she took great pride in her flower gardens.

Throughout her life, Claire was cherished by her friends and family as a uniquely caring and inspiring individual. She managed to come up with the right words in any situation, whether it was to comfort someone in need or to capture the moment for a roomful of people.

As recently as 2022, Claire could be seen enthusiastically dancing at her grandchildren’s weddings, and she will always be remembered as the spirit and light of the party.

Claire’s funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 12:30PM at Temple Sinai of Sharon (25 Canton St, Sharon, MA 02067), followed by burial at Sharon Memorial Park. Following the interment there will be a Shiva reception back at Temple Sinai.

Contributions in Claire’s memory may be sent to the ACLU, Temple Sinai of Sharon, or Good Shepherd Community Care Hospice.
