Sheldon Mayer Zieper, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024 at the age of 92. Born on December 7, 1932, Sheldon grew up in Roxbury, MA and graduated from Northeastern University in 1956 with a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering.
On November 2, 1958, he married Irma Ruth Friedman, with whom he shared 66 wonderful years. Together, they built a life rooted in love, Judaism, and family, raising their two sons, Bruce and Matthew in Westwood, MA. Sheldon loved his daughters-in-law, Robyn and Debra, and was an adoring grandfather/zayde to Harley, Ellie, Ashley, and Joshua.
A devoted member of Temple Sha’are Tefilah in Norwood, MA, and later B’nai Tikvah in Canton, MA. Sheldon was deeply connected to his faith and community. He was also a dedicated professional, spending his career as an electrical engineer at GTE Sylvania, working on the development of radar and tracking systems critical to national defense, a legacy of innovation and service to his country.
Sheldon had a sharp, encyclopedic mind and a keen sense of observation. His thoughtful wit and everlasting humor brought joy to those fortunate enough to know him. He found happiness in the simple pleasures of life, treasuring moments with his family, carving wooden toys and walking sticks, and keeping his candy closet fully stocked from the Dollar Store.
Sheldon will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Please honor him by going for a walk in nature or eating your favorite dessert or candy or supporting a Jewish cause.
The funeral is on Friday 1/3/25 at 9am at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill in Canton, MA with the burial immediately following at Sharon Memorial Park. There will be a shiva (memorial service) at 2:30pm at Congregation Sha’aray Shalom at 1112 Main Street, Hingham MA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to umasshillel.org/donate in honor of Sheldon’s life and legacy. May his memory be a blessing. Zichronon L’vracha.
