Today we celebrate the extraordinary life of Ansel Baker, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Ansel lived a remarkable 97 years, and while we are filled with sorrow at his passing, we are equally filled with gratitude for the time we had with him.

Ansel was a man who embodied love and devotion, not only to his family but to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Helaine, with whom he shared a bond that was truly inspiring. Their love was a guiding light for all of us, teaching us the value of companionship, kindness, and unwavering support. Together, they built a family that Ansel cherished deeply.

Ansel was a proud father to three wonderful children: Harry and his wife Linda, Paula and her husband Glenn, and Gary. His love for them was immeasurable, and it was evident in the way he listened to their stories and offered guidance whenever it was needed.

As a grandfather to six grandchildren—Jordan and Matthew Ruben, Alison and Arielle Baker, and Garrett and Cassidy Baker—Ansel’s heart overflowed with joy and love. He had a special way of making each grandchild feel unique and valued, reminding them that they could achieve anything they set their minds to.

Ansel’s legacy continues to thrive through his seven great-grandchildren: Ansley and Charlie Ruben, Taylor and Parker Ruben, Ava Valero, and Zoe and Landon Sheinman. He delighted in their company and took great joy in watching them grow. The twinkle in his eye when he spoke of them is a testament to the profound love he held in his heart.

Ansel was a man of great talent and passion. He had a deep love for music that resonated throughout his life. Playing both the clarinet and the tenor saxophone, he shared his gift with others and brought joy to many. In fact, he continued to play his clarinet in a community band well into his 90s. It was a vital part of who he was, a way for him to connect with others and express his spirit.

In addition to his musical talents and his dedication to family, Ansel had a zest for life that was infectious. He loved to bowl and play cards, often gathering with friends and family for a friendly game. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was knocking down pins at the bowling alley or sharing a laugh over a card game.

Travel was another passion of Ansel’s. He and Helaine embraced new experiences and adventures with open arms, exploring the world around them and creating cherished memories along the way. They taught us all the importance of living life fully and savoring every moment, a lesson that will stay with us forever.

Throughout his long and fulfilling life, Ansel faced challenges with resilience and grace. He was a man of integrity and wisdom, often sharing life lessons that will stay with us forever. His laughter was contagious, and his sense of humor could brighten even the darkest days. He taught us the importance of family, community, and kindness—a legacy that we will carry on in our own lives.

Thank you for everything, Ansel. May you rest in peace, reunited with Helaine, knowing that you will forever be in our hearts.
