Etta Greenspan Cohen, 75, passed away peacefully in Boca Raton, Florida on September 17, 2024. She was born in Tzfat, Israel, to Zelig “Ziggy” Greenspan and Shayndela “Janet” Greenspan. She was the younger sister to William Greenspan. Etta is survived by her only child, Dr. Lisa Cohen (46), and her partner, Sean.
Etta and her family moved to the Norwich area of Connecticut in 1959. She graduated from Norwich Free Academy High school, and went on to earn her associate’s degree in Boston. During her time as a student in Boston she met her future husband, Charles Philip Cohen. The two married in 1973. They enjoyed many years of laughter together, entertaining friends, active members in their communities, and only separated at his death in 1985.
Etta was a vibrant person with a joyful personality. She was always the shining star in the room, with the ability to make friends with anyone around her. She cherished the time she was able to spend with others in any way she could, whether in an exercise class, her book clubs, her volunteer activities, or simply sitting around drinking a latte.
Her excitement for social events and life, as well as her generous nature were traits admired by those around her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and community.
A funeral service will be held September 22, 2024 at 11:45am at Sharon Memorial Park in Sharon MA where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jewish National Fund for the planting of trees in Israel.
As we come to celebrate the life of Etta, we are reminded of the impact she had on those around her. Though she will no longer be with us, her memories will live on from all her friends and family, who could not be helped but touched by her infectious laugh.
We say farewell and lehitraot for now, knowing her memory will be a blessing and a comfort to all those who knew her.

She used to visit us often after she retired and that brought enormous happiness to anyone who met her.

September 19, 2024 at 11:25 pmI knew Etta from work, first at Prolexic and subsequently Akamai. I can best describe her as equal parts assister and resister. Day dot, she welcomed you to the company. On more frustrating days, her sly wit was the remedy to dispel office mayhem or lift your spirits. I can count on my hands and a few toes the number of times she rescued us from ourselves – sadly, some days we were just hooligans. She was stern stuff, but fun. She will be greatly missed.

After Etta retired she still came to the office from time to time and everybody was very happy to see her. She will be missed.
