Ruth Kates (née Pressman), 99, passed away on June 24, 2024, in Newton, MA. Born on June 17, 1925, in Brooklyn, NY. Ruth was an artist, a teacher, a mother, grandmother, and wonderful friend. She lived a long fulfilling life and enriched the lives of all who knew her, especially those in the art community.
Ruth is survived by her son Richard, his wife Carina, grandson Noah and granddaughter Micayla. Ruth’s daughter Cheryl Kates cared for mom in her last years. Sadly, Cheryl died abruptly 3 months ago.
Memorial services for Ruth and Cheryl will be held at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street in Canton, on Wednesday, June 26th at 10AM with the interment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
Shiva will be held at Ruth’s late residence in Newton on Wednesday & Thursday from 1:30 – 7:30PM.
