Ebba (Helmerson) Sims of Hingham, formerly of Brockton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, April 21, 2023, at 91 years of age. Born and raised in Sweden, she was the daughter of the late Helmer and Agda Nilsson. Ebba was on vacation with a friend when she met Bob Sims at an airport bar in Paris. Bob was on leave from Germany but still on active duty in the United States Army. They struck up a conversation which led to an exchange of letters that continued after Bob was discharged from the Army and returned home to Brockton. Their international communications continued for two years until Ebba packed all her belongings and took a 10-day boat trip to marry Bob.
Ebba was very athletic and together, she and Bob hiked and skied the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Favorite spots to which they returned included the White Mountains in New Hampshire, Summit County in Colorado and the Swiss Alps. To celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary they climbed to the top of both peaks of Mt Kilimanjaro. As a young woman Ebba was involved in local theatre productions, and the American Scandinavian Foundation. Ebba, a strong independent woman, began studying yoga in the early 1960’s with the late Prof Shri Khanna and continued throughout her adult life with her guru, the late Estelle Simons.
Along with her beloved husband of 63 years, she was the loving mother of Amy Sims of California, Peter Sims and his wife Maria of Colorado and was the cherished grandmother of their son Connor Sims, and the devoted sister (inlaw) of the late Allan Helmerson and his wife Margit and Inger Helmerson, of Sweden.
A Memorial Service will be held at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington street, Canton on Sunday, May 21 at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Brockton Boys and Girls Club, 233 Warren Avenue, Brockton, MA 02031

Ebbs touched my life by the gift of knowing her daughter Amy. I send you my deepest condolences on her passing.
She was a star in her community and family!! An adventurous woman whose life and story will invigorate many to come if they are lucky enough to know it. She imprinted her daughter with so many amazing qualities.
Our mothers will be forever in our hearts! A love that never ends! You are so fortunate to have had her for so long!!
I’m sorry I couldn’t attend the service. Please let me know if there is a recording I can watch.
