Pearl Gladys Myerow passed away at home in Lexington, MA on January 26, 2023. She was born in Dorchester on July 25, 1927 to Elias and Lillian Hirshon, the youngest of 3 children. She graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Pearl went on to graduate with a B.S. in Psychology, magna cum laude, Honors in Psychology, Phi Kappa Phi Society from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She embraced the idea of lifelong learning and took college and continuing education courses throughout her life.
After graduation she worked in Cambridge at MIT. She was introduced to William Myerow, a WWII army veteran through a blind date. Pearl and Bill were happily married for over 50 years until his death in 2003. Pearl was predeceased by her brothers Joel and Sidney Hirshon. After raising her family, first in Medford and then Lexington, Pearl went back to work as an administrative assistant/contracts administrator in high tech until she was 85 years old.
Pearl used her skills to assist with the Hadassah bulletin and was subsequently named “Woman of the Year” by that organization. She also raised thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society by participating for many years in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. Pearl also celebrated her Bat Mitzvah as an adult at Temple Isaiah in Lexington.
Pearl is survived by her children Steven Myerow and his wife Emily, Susan Myerow, and Jonathan Myerow and his wife Jodie, her three grandchildren William, Norah, and Elias Myerow, her sister-in-law Consuelo “Sugie” Hirshon, her cousin Joyce Fishman, and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Services will be held on January 30, 2023 11 AM at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street, Canton, with interment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Condolences may be expressed at her home from 6-8 PM on that day. Donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston or a charity of your choice.
