Sandra Kestenberg October 1, 2022

It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of Sandra Gogan Kestenberg of Canton, formerly of Sharon at the age of almost 89.  Devoted daughter of the late Sophia (Baskin) and George Gogan.  Beloved wife of the late David Kestenberg.  Loving mother of Susan (Joseph) Shulman of Canton, Cindy Kaplan of Canton, Jerrold (Laura) Kestenberg of Middleton, and Joel (Brenda) Kestenberg of Brookline.  Adored grandmother of Stacey (Brett) Kaufman, Kimberly (fiancé Frank Brazie) Shulman, Jason (Eva) Shulman, Danielle (David) Erlich, Benjamin (Melanie) Kaplan, the late Jonathan Kaplan, Nicole, Ethan, and Gilad Kestenberg.  Beloved great grandmother of Jacob, Ella, Alexa and Olivia Kaufman, David and Batya Shulman, and Allie and Kayla Erlich.  She also leaves behind her cherished companion, Irving Rosenberg of Canton, and many friends.

Sandra grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls. She worked for a dentist while in school to earn extra money to help her family.  After high school she went to work for a dye company in Boston before meeting and marrying her husband David, the only surviving member of his family of the Holocaust.  They met on the soccer field at Franklin Field in Dorchester where David was a star player and Sandra was a star flirter from her perch on “The Wall”.  They quickly fell in love and married on October 4, 1953.  The funeral is being held on their 69^th anniversary! Together, they built a legacy of four children, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Her family was everything to Sandra.

Sandra had the most sparkling personality and she lit up a room when she walked in.  She was totally fashion forward, was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.  She was kind and accepting of every person (and every animal) she ever met.  She was always for the underdog and saw the good in everyone she met.  She loved to read (especially cookbooks!).  She was an extraordinary cook who could whip up a gourmet meal in a few minutes from whatever she had in her refrigerator.  She was also a top notch Mah- Jongg player, she loved to play with her friends and loved it even more if she could finish the game with a few more quarters than when she started.

She enjoyed watching old (and new!) movies and knew the names of every Hollywood actor/actress in the world.  She’d have extended conversations with her granddaughters discussing the ins and outs of the Housewives of Beverly Hills, who was a going to get kicked out of the house on Big Brother each week, and she read her People Magazine as if it were a Bible.  She could talk to anybody about pretty much anything.  Sandra’s favorite thing in the world to while away her time was shopping.  She might be missed by the TJX Corporation almost as much she will be missed by her loving family.

Services will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at noontime at the Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street, Canton, with internment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park.  Shiva will be omitted due to Yom Kippur. Phone calls/messages/texts, etc. will be greatly appreciated after the holiday.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a donation to your favorite charity in Sandra’s memory, it will be greatly appreciated.

Rest in Peace our loving Ma, Grandma, Gigi.  We will miss you forever.
