BROOKS, Rosabelle (Shomes)

of Centerville passed away at her home in Centerville on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the age of 89. Born in Boston on October 11, 1929 she was the only child of Fred & Esther Shomes. Before she married Melvin Brooks in November of 1951 she was a Registered Nurse, a graduate of the Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing. But 9 months and one day after their marriage, her career ended with the arrival of son Gerry followed by Stu and Mike. Longtime residents of Framingham, they moved to Cape Cod in 1978. After Mel died in 1997 she never lacked for male company with her sons but was most grateful for the presence of her daughters-in-law, Kathy, Diane and Trish. Her life was made complete by her grandchildren, Josh, Zack, Rachel and Drew. She also leaves her cousin Dolly (Edith Selles), longtime friends Nate & Rhoda Levine and her good friends Bill Frye and Ron Whittle of Provincetown. Rose never knew where the name Rosabelle came from nor did she ask. She enjoyed good company, a good cocktail and good conversation. She was a private person and in that spirit her funeral and burial was private. Rose never meddled in her family’s affairs. In return she was revered and deeply loved. Her final gift is the wonderful memories her family and friends will carry forever. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Religious School at the Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter St., Hyannis, MA 02601.
