FINER, Philip


74, of Mansfield passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 4, 2019. He was the husband of Kathleen (Strife) Finer. Born on September 27, 1944, he was the son of the late Herman and Anna (Rosenthal) Finer. Phil attended Boston Latin High School and graduated from Franklin Institute with a Degree in Automobile Mechanics. He then joined the Local 12 Plumbers and Gasfitters Union and went on to become a Master Plumber. He owned Tri Town Plumbing in Sharon. During that time he purchased many rental properties in Sharon and Mansfield. He was also a construction supervisor and built many homes in Sharon.


Phil was a member of Local 12 for 54 years and a proud Mason for 52 years. To relax, Phil took up flying, which later turned into his next career. He was a Certified Flight Instructor, flew as a Captain for both Pilgrim Airlines and Ransome Airlines. He was Chief Pilot for Pan Am Express and then became a Corporate Pilot, during which time he flew for the NASCAR circuit and the Boston Bruins. His most meaningful time was spent flying for Boston Med Flight. He also served on the Mansfield Airport Commission for 27 years.


Besides his wife, Phil leaves behind his children: Michael, Elisha Rittenberg & her husband Lee, Robert Freeman, Nicole Lakota & her husband Jeremy and he was predeceased by his son Steven. He was the grandfather of Lizzy, Alex, Alyssa, JD, Abi, Brian, Brendan, Megan, Jacob and Joshua. He was the brother of Ronna Finer Berman & her husband Marvin, and Barbara Finer. He also leaves his favorite in-laws, Teri & Mike Carr and Paul & Joan Strife. He is also survived by his aunt Selma Engler and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.


 Philip’s funeral will be held at Schlossberg Memorial Chapel, 824 Washington St., Canton on Sunday, January 6 at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to VNA Hospice & Palliative Care, for all the comfort, care, and love they gave him during his final months.
