RICHMOND, Herbert H. "Herb"

 

of Sharon, formerly of Norwood and Mattapan, passed away on May 16, 2018 at 94 years of age.  Devoted son of the late Leo & Ida (Bresnick) Richmond. Beloved husband of the late Helen (Kaplan) Richmond. Loving father of David Richmond & wife Jan Reynolds of Quincy, Bobby Richmond of Stoughton, Karen Narkiewicz & husband John of Sharon, and Lisa Oakley & husband Bryan also of Sharon. Cherished grandfather of Michael Narkiewicz & wife Amy, Jennifer “Hindah” Weissbrot & husband Jared, Steven Narkiewicz & wife Farrah, Danielle Oakley & Dan Hurt, Jeffrey Narkiewicz, Matthew Oakley, and Helena Oakley. Dear great-grandfather of 8. Brother of Jerry Richmond & wife Carol and cousin to Roberta Goldman. Herb grew up in Mattapan where he formed a love for baseball and even tried out for the Boston Braves.  In 1942, he left college and enlisted in the US Army serving in WWII. He played on the US Army Baseball Team in both the US and in England.  In 1946, after serving in the war, he went to work in the newly established family business, “Richmond Hardware” in Braintree. He worked with his brother Jerry as co-owners of the store for 35 years, retiring in 1991. When he met the love of his life Helen, in 1947, he immediately knew she was the one and within 3 days “he was calling for the preacher”.  They were married for 43 years. He lived his life to the fullest each and every day, and had many friends from all walks of life. His generosity in life was only exceeded by his passion and love for his entire family. Chapel service at Schlossberg & Solomon Memorial Chapel, 824 Washington St., Canton, on Tuesday, May 22nd at 12 Noon. Interment to follow at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon, MA. Memorial observance immediately following the burial at the home of Karen & John Narkiewicz until 8:30pm and continuing on Wednesday from 2-4pm & 6-8:30pm.
