PORTNOY, Helene (Finkle)

age 101, of Boston, formerly of Brookline, on January 30, 2018. Born on a farm in Hamilton, Iowa on July 15, 1916 to Louis and Elizabeth Finkle, Helene was raised there and in Des Moines before moving with her family to Chelsea and then Everett. She was the beloved wife of the late Abraham (Bert) Portnoy, and the cherished Mother of the late Susan G. Newman of CA. Helene is survived by her son Kenneth and his wife Andrea of Marblehead, her daughter Miriam Hatoum and her husband Joe of Framingham, her son Daniel of Atlantic Beach, FL., and her former daughter-in-law Joan Portnoy of Denville NJ. She was a proud, loving and devoted grandmother to Ida Moeller and her husband Chris of Marshfield, Elizabeth Portnoy and her husband George Brown of Chicago, Sami Hatoum of Framingham, Jeffrey Portnoy of Palm Beach Gardens FL, and Andrew Portnoy of New York City. She was a cherished great-grandmother to Piper and Owen Moeller and William and Anne Brown. She is also survived by her sister, Faye Sattin of Mount Pleasant SC, and she will be missed by her many nieces and nephews especially Harry Finkle and Donna Jauvtis. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters and their spouses Abraham Finkle (Rose), May Botbol (Melvin), Manuel Finkle (Lillian), David Finkle (Irene), and Eleanor Barnett (Melvin). She was also the sister-in-law of the late Lillian Portnoy of Brooklyn. Chapel Service at Schlossberg & Solomon Memorial Chapel, 824 Washington St. Canton MA on Friday, February 2nd, 2018 at 11 a.m. At Helene's request there will be no memorial observance. Helene's family acknowledges with deepest gratitude the exceptional professional care given their Mother at Sherrill House, 135 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, 02130, and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in Helene's memory be made to Sherrill House, where they will be used for the music programs there, which Helene so deeply loved.
