KANDLER, Norman "Ken"

Known as Ken since his childhood in Roxbury he was beloved by all. During the Korean War he served in the Army as a photographer. Once home he married Sylvia Goldfarb in 1951 and they raised their three children in Newton. Ken first worked for Gale Enterprise and later was one of the founders of Giant Stores. After leaving Giant Stores he bought Sanson Institute of Heraldry. Ken was a part owner of the Half Price Store and later Atco with his son Rick. He served on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Bank and was a past Commodore of the Charles River Yacht Club in Cambridge. He was the beloved husband of the late Sylvia (Goldfarb) Kandler. He is survived by his children Beverly Dancey, Sheryl Kandler & Darrin Dyer and Rick & Hannah Kandler. Cherished grandfather of Stephen Dancey, Geoffrey Dancey, Alyssa Beaulieau, Jennifer Chernin, Adrienne Mandigo Gregory Dancey, Kaitlyn Kandler, Thomas Kandler, Jaclyn Kandler and Jacob Dyer. Great-grandfather of Maya, Jacob, Samuel, Nia, Kenzie, Gwynneth, Parker, Tziporah, Avraham, Mordecahi, Shimon, Esther, Patrick and Jacob. Dear brother of the late David, Bessie, Dora, Harriet and Shirley. Services at Schlossberg Solomon Memorial Chapel, 824 Washington St., Canton on Sunday, April 16 at 12:noon. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. Following the burial the family will be at the home of Rick and Hannah Kandler, continuing Monday 1pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West End House Camp, 105 Allston Street, Alston, MA 02134.
